A walk-in tub enables people to walk into their bathtub before having a nice relaxing soak. They can range quite tremendously in prices, because they have various different features that you can choose from. It is specifically for this reason that you should never purchase a walk-in tub by only looking at the price. You do have to bear in mind, however, that walk-in tubs are designed to stop people from falling. A fall can also be incredibly costly, and the price of a tub pales into insignificance. However, you do have to make sure that you invest in a walk-in tub that meets your needs. Think about the following things to help you make that decision.

The first thing to consider is whether you want to go framed or non-framed. A framed option uses steel and suspends the bottom of the tub. Frameless options use super strong molds instead. To choose the right one for you, you have to consider weight. Think about whether it is a good idea to suspend the weight of the water and of yourself off the floor. Secondly, do you want acrylic or fiberglass. Acrylic is not as strong, unfortunately, but it does cost a lot less. Next, you need to consider special features, particularly if you use hydrotherapy. Hydrotherapy tubs use air and water jets, which can offer a range of different health benefits. Unfortunately, this also means that your tub used a range of different electronic equipment and that it requires specialized cleaning. Not every walk-in tub is able to cope with that.

You should now think about how long it is going to take you to drain the bath. It can take a long time for your bath to drain if the drain height isn’t changed. With a few additional features, however, you could drain your bath in as little as two minutes. This is an important consideration, as you must remain in the bath as it is draining. Last but not least, think about the practicalities of a purchase. First and foremost, consider your warranty and what is covered under it. For instance, does it only cover the walk-in, or also the bath elements that were already there? And think about how the warranty is valid for as well. Also think about installation – can you or a friend do it yourself, or do you need the company to install it? Although arranging this yourself is generally cheaper, it may also void the warranty.
