It is becoming increasingly common for people to use keypad access to open their garage door. With a keypad access system, you are able to open and close your garage door by keying in a code that is known only to you. In fact, in the architectural plans of most new homes, keypad access is included as standard. Most older properties, however, still rely on more conventional systems, although it is now possible to upgrade. Before deciding to do this, however, you must spend some time considering the pros and cons of this system. After all, you may find that something may be very popular, but that it does not suit your needs in any way. Let’s take a look!
The fact that these systems are incredibly easy to use has to be the greatest advantage of all. All you need to do in order to open or close the door is enter the code. Compared to the pushing and pulling on doors that is necessary on non-electronically operated garage doors, this really is a lot easier. This is a particularly important advantage for those who are getting older, or those who have any kind of physical impairment. Also, a keypad access system is very low maintenance. The only thing it really requires is the occasional changing of battery. Then, there is the fact that you can use keypad access as a backup. A lot of people have remote access to their garage door, but if the remote is lost or if it runs out of batteries, you can simply use the keypad instead. If nothing else, it means there is no more need for you to throw your house upside down trying to find your keys, remote or batteries, only to discover they were in your pocket this whole time. Last but not least, these systems offer great security. Since you are the only one who is aware of the codes, others will find it much more difficult to get into your property.
On the other hand, the system also has significant drawbacks. The first one is that codes can be broken. A truly determined burglar will find some way of cracking your code. Secondly, these systems won’t function if the power goes down. Although the keypad only uses batteries, the mechanism of the door itself does require full power in order to operate. Lastly, you have to consider the expense of this garage door keypad access system. The exact cost will depend on various factors, including which system you choose and what you already have installed at present, but it will never be cheap. Unfortunately, this is often more than most people are able to afford.
